Obligatory birthday post

This morning, at 1something AM, I turned 33. This is the first year since I started acknowledging this day, again, that I have nothing planned (except some post-election celebratory foodage with friends – that has nothing to do with my birthday). Instead, I’m working, which is odd, and doing some reflection (in fact, this post is starting at 1:04am on 11/2). When I started this decade, I thought I was moving into something grander than what my 20s were about. Something about finding my course and starting out on the path that was mapped out during that wonderful decade. I’ve grown past the need to heal and step forward from that nightmare, looking at the joy and sunshine that actually existed.

Instead, 2 years ago, I was sitting in my room on the 8th floor of a hostel overlooking one of the most beautiful cities in the world wondering what in the hell I was really searching for and whether or not it would be worth making the trip home. In that weekend, I learned to stop letting things get away from me without saying anything and start recognizing the truth that was in front of me. That was my map, half of my own doing, and half of circumstance. Regardless, the hell I went through, that year, I don’t regret it.

Anyway, today is mostly a reflection (it’s Nov. 3, 3.49pm EST), the day is rainy, my office is cold and I was just informed that my gas won’t be turned on till Dec. 1. Chase is a bitch and I had to yell at them this morning. There was no stoup for me today, as the Biscuit was closed (but Kroger makes a very, very yummy chilli). The positive – my credit card machine arrived and it’s charging. I’m reading through the fun stuff and should be able to run all charges tomorrow. Tonight is dinner with friends, to celebrate the actual change that has occurred in DC (though, not near enough, maybe next election cycle).

And no, this post did not go where I was wanting it to go. Oh well, Geek Depresif. 😉

So, in my effort to give meaning to my life (yes, I’m having a day of questioning, it started last night while sitting in my window overlooking Copenhagen – got a wonderful shot of the view to post later). I’m putting a question to all my readers, LJ users and site visitors alike….

What do I mean to you? What aspect of myself provides something to you? Why do you enjoy reading what comes out of my head?

*For you non-LJers, you may post anonymously, but please sign your post so I know who it’s coming from.

To contextualize this, I’m in the process of evaluating where I am, and where I want to go. Unfortunately, I’m a bit lost, ATM, and feel highly detached from almost everyone around me, including the people I’m supposed to be closest to.

It was raining when I got here, but thankfully it’s not too bad anymore. I got in Thursday, around 3.30 then proceeded to find out my credit cards don’t work here (though the Hostel was able to run my main one). After checking in, got settled then ran off to get my ass kicked at Choke Academy. Fun as always, and meeting new guys. Yesterday was the start of ProgPower Scandinavia, got to hang out with my friends here, and actually got tipsy. They have this drink called Cult Shaker, which is vodka and something similar to red bull. Had no problems with it, other than the bubbles up my nose. Was still fun. The concert lasted well into the night, with Vanden Plas finishing out the evening. Finally got to see Wuthering Heights live, which was nice, since I missed their performance at ProgPower USA the first year. Oh well, this made up for it. Also made some new friends, and got to take pictures of everything that was lost on Drew’s camera from last year. 😀

Oh yeah, skipping the horrorscope this week. I’ll resume next week when I get home.

I have arrived in Denmark. The French guy behind me was a pain in my ass, but two hot Parisians (one serving me coffee *drool*) made him less of a pain. I have gotten my ass kicked, and I’m ready for bed.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

If you’re a left-winger, you may think right-wingers are stupid or evil or both. If you’re a right-winger, you probably hold the same attitudes about left-wingers. A similar pattern prevails between most other groups that hold opposing views. You’re a rare person if you’ve never looked at a certain group of people and thought to yourself, “They are all sick idiots.” But in the coming week, Scorpio, I’m asking you to find out what it’s like to dispense with judgments like that. In fact, try living without any scapegoats whatsoever. If even for an hour per day, visualize the possibility that those with whom you disagree might be sincere and well-meaning. I’m not suggesting this exercise merely because it’s a nice thing to do. It will also have the magical effect of giving you access to parts of your own intelligence that have been closed off to you.

Man, all of them???? Of course, he left out the folks like me, who are a bit outside of the left/right split and think they’re all stupid.

That said, I’m now 2 weeks out of training because I still can’t breathe. This sucks. I’m gonna go to class, because I’m tired of not being in the gym. I also need to create a check-list for what all I need to take care of, before I leave for Denmark. I just have to wait for this next paycheck, to pay for my car tags. Licensure I can take care of on Monday, since I’ll have all my CEUs done by then and will be able to verify, if I’m audited. Otherwise, today is a lazy day. One client tonight, thanks to therapists who don’t understand the concept of working FOR someone. *sigh*
