Ok, Kerry just moved down a couple notches…

Q: What do you plan to do about the amounts of immigrants who are dying in the deserts trying to get into the US?

A: We need to take away the incentive for people to go into the deserts trying to get into this country. Through agreements with Mexico. (continues with more examples and whatnot but did nothing to address the fact we already have legal means in place)

Ok, no offense to the lovely people who decide to cross the desert, but I work with immigrants. They’re playing by all the rules that this government has put into place for them to be naturalized. Which, requires their two young children to remain in Mexico for another 2-3 years till they meet their 7 year employment requirement. They can’t visit their kids in Mexico because their Visas might be revoked at the border, and their kids can’t come here because of their age. Yet, once a month, at the local embassy they have amnesty days where illegal immigrants can get their legal alien cards without any run around from the government. Similar thing happened to a friend of mine who married a Canadian. They spent months going by the books to get her citizenship and avoid having her deported. The solution is not getting some “your citizens are my citizens” agreement with other countries, it’s making the process of going through the legal routes less painful for those who do it!

  1. First off, I’m still amazed people piss away their votes on the big two. Secondly, if we’re going to have an immigration policy that doesn’t amount to open borders it should be tough. There should be criminal back round checks, medical checks. Why should it be easy? I’d say open borders are the one place where i stray from the views of my party, libertarian for the record. To be honest I’m about as conscerned about illegals dehydrating in the desert as i am about criminals being shot by the home owners they are attempting to rob. Illegal immigration is a large and serious problem, and I fail to see how increasing the amount of refugees pooring over our borders would fix hose problems. I also think basic ability with the engish language should be a requirement for citizenship, but i realize that’s pushing it.

    1. i don’t vote libertarian at the national level, and i have yet to hear anything out of that party on this election (i find them much more useful at the local and state level). otherwise, i completely agree with you on the immigration issues. given my friends, i think it is a complete sham in the fact that once a month, illegals who don’t die in the desert can come here and gain their green card in one day, but those that try to get here legally have to jump through the worst of hoops to be legal (i.e. it’s easier to become legal after being illegal than going the legal route the whole way). as for the dehydrating in the desert, they’re the dumbasses that chose to foot it in an arid stretch of land, in fact, i’d be all for creating a greater stretch of desert along the border, that way we could increase the morbitity rate of those trying to cross illegally (i’m all for shooting them too). and yes, english is a freaking must! i’m sick and tired of being looked at like i’m pond scum because someone who now lives here can’t bother to speak the local language, yet i’m supposed to learn theirs, even if i’m never going to visit their country again. it’s ridiculous, if you’re going to move somewhere, learn the freaking language!
