Ok, so went and saw Underworld a couple days ago. Yeah, the plot was a bit thin, but given the ending, it could lead to some fleshing out in a sequal. Otherwise, fuck White Wolf and the whole “Vampire: the Masquerade” thing. Gods, yeah, gamers (who actually play the games) could figure it out, but the rest of us who go for the eye candy (and there’s much of it – more for the girls and bois than the guys) aren’t going to sit there and say, “Oh, that’s from an RPG, shame on them for even putting it in there.” On top of that, regardless of the b.s. said in the suits thus far, the word that is being focused on is a noun that is the most common descriptor for the object that it is describing; “abomination”. *sigh* Yeah, that’s not the only focus, but it is one of them and it’s pathetic. Anyway, I’d go see it again, and I have no issues with providing more of my money towards Sony for it.

  1. I suspect that the lawsuit is mainly for the publicity. At the Underworld preview, the hosts made sure to mention the film and White Wolf. For whatever piddling settlement and legal fees Sony pays, they’ll get the word around the vampire-playing world about the movie. White Wolf benefits, Sony benefits, we all win.

Just a personal conspiracy theory. 🙂

Pish tosh! Kate Beckinsale in vinyl was enough eye candy for me.

  3. I haven’t heard sh*t about the WW thing about this, anyone got a link handy? Other than that, I thought it was a great movie… just wish I hadn’t been the one guy without a femme on his arm in our huge group of people who descended on it opening night… hot chicks with guns get me in such a naughty mood. 🙂

    2. I tried to find a link, but my brain isn’t quite up to par. In a nutshell, WW is suing Underworld since they say the movie is a ripoff of a novel written for WW several years ago, and that the whole “eternal struggle between vampires and werewolves” is also a rip off. Nevermind the fact that the story is old, or the fact that WW itself blatantly rips off their ideas from myths and tales. Heh, or if we want to get right down to it, a vampire falling in love with a werewolf is a modern day version of Romeo and Juliet.
