    1. Unfortunately, the Shrub v. II, has taken a personal interest in a second case where the mother has the IQ of a 4-year-old and has no living family members. They’re trying to keep the kid alive.

      1. Well since the Shrub has something in common with the mother. There is no doubt an interest. However, if they force this mother to have the child. I am sure it will affect his bid for a second term. No matter how much support he had!

  1. So, here’s an interesting point I found in the article. “In 1989 the Florida Supreme Court ruled that fetuses couldn’t have guardians because they aren’t legally people.” Really? Then why the hell do I keep seeing signs relating abortion to genocide, calling it murder, or the worse case I saw, saying it was just like the Holocaust? Grr. Yeah this raises my hackles that people can *still* be close minded and who gives a crap about the woman, right?

    1. Hrm…. from my understanding (and that’s more than usual because this is a topic near and dear to my heart, plus I am in the process of studying for the bar exam and just finished my latest con law tests), the current rule is that:
      1. Abortion is a fundamental privacy right
      2. Laws re: abortion are divided into 2 areas: pre-viability [where states may NOT prohibit but may regulate abortions] and viability [where the states may prohibit unless necessary to protect the woman’s life or health].
and 3. When dealing with minors (I would assume this also includes those that are incapacitated), states may require parental notice/consent, so long as there is an alternative procedure where where a minor can go before a judge who can approve of the abortion if it is in the minor’s best interests.

My opinion? Don’t like abortions???? Then don’t have one.

      1. Considering you’re getting a degree in law (while I am a measly English major), I will take your word on what you said above. I wasn’t meaning to get on a soapbox. There are certain issues that just get to me. There was this bumper sticker I recall, “Keep your pulpit out of my vagina.”

      2. LOL like I said, the topic is very near and dear to my heart. I’m the one that can never resist the opportunity to jump on a soapbox about it! I like the bumpersticker…I’ve always believed that the government should keep its head out of women’s crotches!

      3. hear hear!!!!! And I really wish the idiots that are trying to take over guardianship of these people would actually take the person into account. These two people were completely incapable of taking care of themselves, much less a child. But hey, ‘let’s make this person have the kid, and then force them to give it up because we know they’re incapable of caring for it.’ I hate that attitude, it annoys the fuck out of me. They would much prefer to force someone into having a child because the child is much more important. And one of the people had a guardian (aka: the mother) but because she wanted her child to have an abortion, they wanted to take away her relationship as a mother! Fuckers.

    2. The pro-lifers were being nailed by the Jewish community for equating it to the Holocaust, to the point the group doing that almost got sued for defamation, or something like that. But yeah, they just want to change the rules so they can force every child to be born, regardless the consequences.
