Since I didn’t want to block up a friend’s journal with this, particularly since I don’t like the band…
POS issued an embargo against the US, several years ago, because they didn’t like what the Bush admin put into place, in regards to Customs procedures. That protest grew into the writing of the song America (which, I’ll have more respect for them if they have the balls to play it in this country).
Now, I respect their right to free speech, and to criticize our government and what it does. I also respect their embargo – and kinda wish they’d maintained it, having suffered through a set of theirs (damned Danish cold weather and lack of alcohol). But the fact remains, they will still have to endure the customs procedures that started their whole hatred, regardless the change in political leadership and, IMO defeats the purpose of their original embargo leaving them to the level of hypocrites.
I wonder if I’d get into trouble for refusing to drive them, should I work a festival with them in the line-up? *fingers crossed I still have a minion if that ever happens*

I couldn’t agree more with you. I sort of agreed at least with their stance on the original embargo. I’m not exactly happy with the customs procedures as I think they’re stupid and annoy more people than they actually help, but I respect their position, “don’t like it so I’m not going there” (rather than moaning about it all the time yet still going). Now though, it’s just stupid.

This is a summary of what I told the Kiwi:
While I don’t agree with the changes they have made, they are in the direction that they need to go. You have to understand, that the lax of our system is what allowed a small amount of people to enter our country and kill 3k people (not to mention the illegals who get here via the Visa system). And we can’t shut the door to revamp the system, we have to make changes and these are a start. As new technologies and systems are put into place (that are less invasive but allow us to keep track of who is here and when they need to leave and if they don’t) things will get better. But sometimes, we have to do things that are necessary first, to at least get us moving in the right direction. /end
The problem occurs, when the short-term systems are not replaced with something geared to the long-term (Social Security, for example). And our gov’t is notorious for not following through. Maybe I’ve got a case of wishful thinking, that they’ll continue to improve and tweak things and not stop with the “well it works” mentality.
